Christian Dior Resort 2015
Christian Dior, existing for 66 years in the USA, coincidentally showcased a phenomenal collection of 66 looks, according to Belgium born artistic director Raf Simons. When Dior president and CEO Sidney Toledano pointed out that fact before the show, he told Simons, “Did you know? This is the 66 year that Dior Inc. U.S.A. exists.” A total coincidence, Simons said, but one with profound meaning to him.
The show took place in the outer borough of Brooklyn, at Navy Yard’s eco-friendly Duggal Greenhouse. The 1,000-plus attendees included starlets like Rihanna, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Allison Williams as well as coveted designers including Christian Louboutin and Proenza Schouler’s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough.
In the Resort 2015 collection, Simons combined practicality, modernity and effortless sex appeal. Ultra high-waisted slim fit trousers and flaring, knee-length skirts (including one in black asymmetrical sheared fur) looked stunning on the runway! Sultry silk camisoles were designed with abstract graphic prints and boxy, geometric fits. For an extra scoop of flirtatiousness, sleeveless floral print sheath dresses were layered over ruffle hem skirts. Among my absolute favorite looks: the delicate, silk layered scarf skirts mingled with edgy peep toe booties and textured crew neck sleeveless blouses. Here are my top picks from the collection! They’re all rather wearable and simple to try (except for the nipple baring pale lilac sheer dress, unless you’re Rihanna of course)!
