Poet Sleeves: Runway Trends From Louis Vuitton, Just Cavalli, Saint Laurent and More
Sexy, flawless and elegant, poet sleeves and Victorian details are one of this season’s IT trends! Pulling its inspiration from the Romantic and Victorian eras, a period between 1800 and 1900, the times were scented by romantic literature which transformed poetry, the novel, drama, painting, music, dance and fashion. The intensity of emotion embodied in the works of poets like Shakespeare and novelists like Charles Dickens ran parallel to the dramatic silhouettes worn, making such an impact that the design concepts are still desirable today. Designers are channeling the rich and ardent vibe of the past to reignite our present passion. And it’s working!
Seen on the Spring/Summer 2015 runways of Louis Vuitton, Just Cavalli, Rachel Zoe, Rebecca Minkoff, Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel, Valentino and more, global designers gave this trend a contemporary comeback!
Poet sleeves are loose and billowy at the arm, and fitted at the sleeve hem. New takes of the look feature alternative details at the sleeve hem, like Louis Vuitton’s sheer cutouts and curved edges. You’ll also notice front lacing on dresses similar to popular bustiers of the past, as well as high necklines and Victorian bibs. Saint Laurent decided to push the limits and transform the traditional Victorian bib into a neckline that dips so low that it exposes the exact area that the bib would cover, further revealing the erogenous zone.
Other designers used playful color palettes, embellishments, exotic finishes, mini skirts and nip baring sheer details to revive the trend! But of course you don’t have to show your boobies to celebrate the trend’s reemergence, I’ve discovered some fabulous and affordable pieces that you’ll love. See below and enjoy the looks!
