Aleah’s Full Figure Fashion Tips On ABC 7’s Windy City LIVE! Video Link Included

Hey everyone!  I’m back with another post here on aleahconnect.com – and this one is especially for ladies with bodacious curves!  This week I presented a Full Figure Fashion show called “Flatter that Figure” on ABC Channel 7 in Chicago, the show is called Windy City LIVE and it’s fabulous!  I provided some very practical and timely fashion tips for voluptuous women to help you look and feel fabulous all day, everyday.  I took five dazzling models to some of the world’s top fashion destinations: T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Vive la Femme, and eloquii by The Limited and styled them in figure flattering looks which we revealed on WCL!  Here they are…plus you’ll be able to watch the live fashion show and see photos of behind the scenes action!  Lets have some fun!

GIGI | THE TREND: WRAP DRESS & BURGUNDY

STORE: Marshalls

CLOTHING: Red V-Neck ruched wrap dress, $29.99 | Peep toe pumps with red piping, $39.00

SHOP MARSHALLS ONLINE: http://www.marshallsonline.com/

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT WRAP DRESSES FOR PLUS-SIZE WOMEN?

Now what’s great about wrap dresses, like this one Gigi is wearing, is that they conceal your most sensitive areas: arms, midsection and thighs while playing up your best assets – cleavage and toned legs. Again this dress is only 29.99 – that’s why T.J. Maxx and Marshalls are one of my go to spots.  They carry on trend, brand name designer pieces we want with the quality we need for less. Every week I find new items because their buyers are shopping the world year round!  The dress that I am wearing during the show is from Marshalls and I saved 50%!

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A NECKLINE?

Deep V-necks will always elongate your neckline, flatter your chest, and call attention to your waistline (smallest part of your body!).

WHY IS RUCHING SO GREAT FOR PLUS-SIZE WOMEN?

What I especially like is the gathering at the bust and sides because the clustering interrupts the eye. That sudden jagged texture shields any bumps underneath. That way you can wear a fitted dress and not feel overly exposed. No more hiding in big clothes ladies, they only you look bigger than what you actually are!

SHANNON| THE TREND: COLOR-BLOCKING / STRIPES

STORE: T.J. Maxx

CLOTHING: Blue /Green color blocked shift dress w/ matching Belt, $39.99 | Nude glossy pumps, $39.99 | Deep green and blue teardrop earrings, $9.99 | Vintage inspired jewel tone bracelet, $29.99 | Mustard envelope clutch w/ stud detailing, $19.99

SHOP T.J. MAXX ONLINE: http://www.tjmaxx.com/

WHY DOES THE SHAPE OF THIS DRESS WORK?

Looser dresses allow us to have more fun with prints and textures because the garment won’t cling to our bodies.  It’s billowy nature takes shape of it’s own, rather than calling attention to any ‘trouble spots.’

IF YOU WANT TO WEAR STRIPES…WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO DO IT?

Keep in mind two key points: horizontal prints add width, vertical stripes add length.  Larger horizontal stripes need to have cooler tones because they naturally add width to your frame.  Darker tones minimize volume and the waist belt adds definition, which gives Shannon’s look harmony.

WHERE SHOULD THE TIE HIT YOU? WHY DO YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE IT’S HITTING YOU IN THE RIGHT SPOT?

For fitted looks the best place for belt is directly below the bust because that’s the smallest part of your torso.  However, when you are wearing a looser fitting dress the belt should also have more of a relaxed fit – like in this case.

IF YOU HAVE A DRESS WHERE TIE ISN’T HITTING YOU RIGHT, WHAT CAN YOU DO?

This is so easy for a tailor to change – just bring it in and they can adjust the loopholes on your dress to make it hit in the right spot.

WHAT DO THE NUDE PUMPS DO?

Nude pumps elongate your legs – the flesh tone continues down your legs making them appear longer!

AMBER| THE TREND: ANIMAL PRINT

STORE: Vive la Femme

CLOTHING: Animal print pencil skirt, $65 | Black sleeveless scoop neck top with peplum lining, $65 | Black cropped cardigan, $65 | Red wrap, $34 | Black side strap bootie, $19.99

SHOP VIVE LA FEMME ONLINE: http://vivelafemme.com/

WHAT SHOULD WOMEN KEEP IN MIND WHEN TRYING ANIMAL PRINT FOR THE FIRST TIME?

You want to wear classic cuts when trying the animal print trend.  They are naturally risqué, so we tame it’s fiery appeal with subtle silhouettes and colors, like this traditional pencil skirt and these conventional black separates.  We know pencil skirts are universally flattering, so teaming it with animal prints is a safe and flattering way to rock this trend.

TELL ME ABOUT THIS RED WRAP…

Animal print and red are natural partners because of the coloring and also because their personalities are equally strong – they’re daring!  One is not complete without the other.  This particular wrap is made of rayon and doubles well as a scarf for fall and winter.

JAYE| THE TREND: PRINTED PANTS / JEWEL TONES

STORE: Eloquii by The Limited, 4th Floor at Water Tower Place.  The collection is designed by Jodi Arnold.

CLOTHING: Fuschia top w/ keyhole neckline, $50 | Black/White print cotton pant, $60 | Black/White Print blazer, $129 | Silver Crystal Bagle, $29.90 | Silver cuff, $24.90 | Black pumps, $79

SHOP ELOQUII BY THE LIMITED ONLINE: http://www.eloquii.com/

WHAT TYPE OF PRINTED PANTS SHOULD YOU AVOID?

Avoid pants with large prints, as they will exaggerate your lower half.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A PANT?

Pants with a high waist, slim fit at the hip and thighs with no pleating and a slight boot cut are most slenderizing because they offer control, support and weight at the hemline to balance your proportions.

WHAT FABRIC IS BEST TO STICK TO?

Fabrics with a spandex and cotton mix will conform to the shape of your body while providing the structure and support you need to feel comfortable and confident all day.

TELL ME ABOUT THE NECKLINE…

Also keep in mind that a frilly flesh-baring scoop neckline will pull the eye away from your hips and tummy. The height of the neckline also helps to minimize cleavage.  As you can see eloquii by The Limited is designed to meet the fashion needs of full figure women.  The sleeve lengths, inseams and waist levels are altered to flatter your body – plus the pieces are trendy and appropriate for work and play.

LISA | THE TREND: GRAPHIC PRINTS

STORE: eloquii by The Limited

CLOTHING: Black/White print sleeveless top, $55 | High Waist pencil skirt, $65 | Turquoise collarless blazer, $119 | Long sterling silver pendant necklace, $29.90 | Sterling Silver crystal studs, $16.50 | Mustard Suede Pumps, $98.00

SHOP ELOQUII BY THE LIMITED ONLINE: http://www.eloquii.com/

WHAT TYPES OF PRINTED PATTERNS SHOULD YOU AVOID?

If you are petite avoid large printed patterns as they have the tendency to overwhelm your body.  Smaller prints are always more figure-flattering than larger prints.

TELL US ABOUT WHAT LISA IS WEARING.

Structured, slightly fitted pencil skirts minimize thighs and raise your waistline to bring the attention away from your midsection and towards the narrowest part of your ribcage. This effect also adds a couple of inches to your lower half, which makes your legs look longer, and your overall body leaner.

HOW TO PICK OUT COLORS

Remember wearing a lighter color on top will also draw the eye upwards, and add a few precious inches to your frame.

SHOULD YOU STICK WITH DARK COLORS ON BOTTOM?

Dark colors on the bottom will minimize shapelier hips and thighs – sculpting your lower half.  Bright colors on top will add structure to your upper body and balance your proportions.  With all of these fashion tips there is one thing I want you to do today – give someone, no matter their shape or size a complement – you never know how much it can lift their spirt.  Kindness is always in style.
